we dream of the day we see the tower fall to the ground. many would feel freed or shocked and move on with their lives, but i would fear for the old generation of lifers who have put their whole life into this. could be scary to see what would happen to them

Part of me wants the Borg to carry on doing what it does
by TheyCantDoATing Man inthere are times when i hate the borg.
when i think about my lost childhood in it, the draconian level of authority and all the idiots i had to put up with over the years, i get very bitter, angry and resentful.. i went through a stage of turning the other cheek and praying for thine enemies but that didn't really work for me.
i remained on boiling point, simmering under the surface.. i now have reached a more pragmatic viewpoint.

Is there anyone here with a meeting on Tuesday or Monday? Need some help.
by garbonzo indoubt there will be a monday meeting, but i know there are tuesday meetings.
obviously this is for people who are still in, or at least have the phone number for the phone hook up.. .
anyway, i was wondering if someone could help me out.

contrary to most views here so far, i rather like the idea that some of us stuck-ins help eachother have a bit easier time going through the motions, for whatever personal motivation each one has for doing so.
there are many threads on this forum dealing with the validity of the decision of staying in as a "conscious class" member, and participating to varying degrees despite our better awareness. so no need to put him down in the first comment after his opening post, as i'm sure Garbonzo knows the option of not doing it exists, just that at this time it serves his personal situation best to just do the talk.
anyway, i'm currently already in the process of skipping the meeting, but maybe i could still go and if so i'll record the talk on my phone. no promises though.

FYI: Something is going on in Brazil that's interesting
by AndersonsInfo inposted on www.christianwitnesses.com.
the federal public ministry at ceara, brazil, on july 14, 2011 filed a civil action against the religion of jehovah's witnesses in the 8th federal court for practicing religious discrimination against former members.
prosecutor nilce cunha rodrigues has taken on official representation of sebastian oliveira (ramos) who, after being expelled from the religion was discriminated against by colleagues, friends and relatives, including his mother, in accord with norms of the jehovahs witnesses who are headed by a governing body of the watchtower society.

Which did you like better: The Watchtower or Awake? ...and why?
by JimmyPage ini always liked the awake better because it wasn't as preachy.
less analyzing of what minute thing some guy in a robe and sandals did thousands of years ago and its application for our day.
the awake seemed more secular and less dogmatic.

my favorite in order:
1. Awake's Observing the World - read the most like snippets from a newspaper, a quick read that actually interested me.
2. WatchTower - then because it felt like it had much greater importance and relevance. now, for finding theological absurdities and rolling my eyes at the overt stupidity.
3. The rest of the Awake! - sometimes the subjects are interesting, sometimes not, but if i want to read about nature or history etc, i'd rather read about it in something like National Geo. and get quadruple the information about it, and forego sentences like "isn't that a marvellous creation?".

Thinking about loosing my friends ....
by Dudu ini think the harddest part of all this process of fading is losing friends .... ive been jw all my life and my all my close friends are jw ... im sad.
-

can't deny it sure is a sad process.
but even if you hang on and stay in during your fade, your friend amount and quality will drop quickly, as you find yourself continually disagreeing with their ideology, and they also subconsciously sense your disengagement in it.

Meetings at the Kingdom Hall are TRUE worship!
by punkofnice in...or so i used to think.. what is worship?.
not sitting listening to wtb$ corporation propoganda which is more a sales seminar than worship.. not giving talks, sermons or demonstrations designed to make you better sales persons in field misery for the benefit of your reputation when the elders jusde you.. not constantly being hypnotized to believe i am not good enough and must do more or my imaginary friend in the sky will lovingly kill me soon (terms and conditions apply and are subject to 'overlapping').
not answering from a hi-lited piece of litter-trash at indoctrination sessions designed to make you better recruiters so the gb can have power and money.. if i were god i wouldn't consider 7.5million sheeple obeying 7 power trippers in brooklyn worship to me.....idoliary, yes.

Even when I was at my most indoctrinated I questioned whether the meetings were really worship. A bland song and sterile prayer just didn't convince me.
i felt and feel the same way. especially when they would run out of time at the WT study, and cut it short and say "we'll have to skip the last paragraph because we're out of time". its just so rigid and structured like its a business meeting instead of sincere and important worship.

Can you think of anything that is postive about being A JW?
by jam inthey make good neighbors, why because they.
stay to themselves..
-
agent zero
i think there are definitely positives promoted by the group. non-violence, conscientious objection, no smoking, honesty, a sense of worldwide unity and trust, etc.. but as BluesBrother pointed out, those things could and should be obtainable WITHOUT total dedication to their rediculously askew theology and leadership.
